WoW Item Upgrades

Item upgrades--more commonly known as "upping"--are items and enchantments that can be put on armor and weapons to boost their stats. These upgrade components increase the level gauge of an item by a specific number of points. The cost of these upgrades increases with their rarity.

A perfectly made version of this armor is highly prized in the melee PvP community due to its ability to minimize the amount of damage a weapon can cause.

Type-restricted upgrades

Upgrades are a crucial component of the equipment crafting process. They can boost the quality of an item as well as make it stronger or less durable, and even add an added benefit. They also affect the item's appearance. While certain upgrades are universal, other have special rules when applied to weapons or armor. The wrong upgrade could ruin a weapon that was otherwise amazing, or even render it unusable.

A general rule is that you can only upgrade a piece of equipment to the level of the highest-level gear in its category.
